Protecting the Magic?

St Tammany.com reports:

Walt Disney World in Florida nearly banned a man who looks like Santa Claus, but eventually just told him to quit telling kids in the park he was the real deal.

A Disney manager had said, “‘You need to alter your appearance’ because I was impersonating Santa Claus,” J.D. Worley tells WTVT-TV in Tampa, Fla. “I look this way 24/7, 365 days a year. This is me.”

So he no longer wore a red shirt, red hat and blue jeans. But even then, kids at the theme park asked him if he was Santa.

“How do you tell a little kid, ‘No, go away, little kid’,” Worley said.

Disney managers decided not to ban Worley from the park, but they did ask him to knock it off and stop saying he was Santa. A Disney spokesman says the park was just trying to protect the magic of Santa.

Worley left “the happiest place on earth” a little sad, he says, but he still loves Disney — and Christmas, he told WTVT Fox 13.

Worley says he has played the jolly old elf at charity events for years.

I wonder what Walt would have said about that…

How would you—as a child—feel, if the man looking like all the Santa’s you have ever seen telling you: “I am NOT Santa.”

Thank you Disney for protecting the magic. No, really.

I didn’t know that Disney has a monopoly on Santa Claus…

It is a shame when one group believes they have a lock on magic. I have met people like this in real life while on vacation in Branson. We had breakfast in a restaurant and a man and his wife were also eating there. He looked exactly like Santa, except he had shorts and a t-shirt on. He even had glossy black and white photos that he freely autographed and signed. I was a teenager, but my younger brother and sister loved it, and I thought he was very cool. Great blog entry.

Oops! Damn Walt was right about that one too…
