Just A Straight Line…

© Copyright Frank D. Kanu 2000-2008

Some years ago a bank told a man that he had to change his signature. He made a straight line, some 3-4 inches long. In the banks opinion that just wasn’t good enough—and easily to forge. The man refused; both parties met at court.

What came was rather interesting. The judge asked the man to sing on a piece of paper. Some ten/twenty times. The man did. Every single time the line he draw was of the same length, straight like drawn with the help of a ruler. The judge ruled in the man’s favor: “A signature has to be unique, but also look the same when repeatedly done by the signer. This is obviously the case here.”

Take a look at the first part of the ruling: Unique. But many people do not sign—they neatly print their name…

How does your signature look like?

What are you doing to check if someone’s signature is forged?
